Reducing the risk of and managing Osteoporosis speaker service

Do you want to learn more about reducing your risk of osteoporosis and practical tips on how to manage osteoporosis? Consider having a trained volunteer spokesperson from the organization meet with you and your group of colleagues for a personalized session. An excellent selection of pamphlets about calcium, exercise, drug therapies and many other topics will be made available to you at each session.

Bone Up workshop: A continuing education program for pharmacists and registered dietitians

Learn about the New 2010 Clinical Practices Guidelines for the diagnosis and management of Osteoporosis in Canada. This workshop has been accredited for a total of 3 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) by the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association.

Date: Monday, October 26th, 2010

Public forum: The bare bones of preventing fractures

Speakers:

  2. Pat McCarthy Briggs, Registered dietitian - on “Nutrition for Healthy Bones" (focus on current Calcium and Vitamin D recommendations)

Support group meetings

The Manitoba Chapter, Osteoporosis Canada, is hosting a support and self-help group for people living or at risk with Osteoporosis. This group shares experiences, information and support. Call the Manitoba Chapter office for more information or to register 772-3498.

In peer supported settings, participants will receive interactive information about bone health and have the opportunity to actively engage in discussions and share experiences. A new topic will be addressed each month in two locations in Winnipeg. Through generous funding there is no cost to participants.

 

Osteoporosis - Navigating a new sense of self support group

A seven session peer support group program. Sessions are free but registration is required. Please call 772–3498 or email : manitoba@osteoporosis.ca

Available positions / Volunteer postings

  • Treasurer - This individual would become a member of the Chapter Executive and be responsible for submitting an annual budget and monthly financial statements, and for monitoring the financial transactions and accounts. 

  • Fund Development Chairperson - This individual would become a member of the Chapter Executive and chair the Fund Development Committee. He/she would be responsible for developing and implementing a strategy for enhancing the existing portfolio of fund development activities, preparing proposals and grant requests and for maintaining an annual plan and budget for fund development activities. 

  • Education Volunteers - Volunteers are needed to join the Speakers’ Bureau to make presentations on Osteoporosis and/or host displays at Health and Wellness Fairs.
